Seen on my favorite website Moda Operandi a few weeks ago, I fell in love with the talent of Giuseppe di Morabito. He is a young Italian designer who was born in the 90’s.
The colours, textures and shapes of his childhood region still serve as integral sources of his creativity. He grew up surrounded by important historical and architectural sites, which instilled him with a deep love for the visual traditions. In 2013 Giuseppe carried these influences and passions into the fashion world, attending Instituto Marangoni, Milan, for a program in Fashion Design.
In 2014 his dream became true with the launching of his own brand Giuseppe di Morabito. Giuseppe di Morabito Women’s line is characterized by Made in Italy tailoring, special fabrics and sophisticated embroideries.
The brand’s style plays with a sense of elegant bizarreness and the art of tailoring in different shapes and forms: the garments vary from ready-to-wear to more sophisticated ones who targets a young female public.
Hence, this is the reason as to why I have selected Giuseppe di Morabito for the Cannes Festival, a dress that allowed me to shine throughout the Red Carpet. I was so nervous, given that I only received it a few minutes before I needed to be ready, but with a service like the one of Giuseppe Di Morabito I got the chance to wear the dress.
Moreover, letme introduce you more closely with Giuseppe di Morabito through the following interview.
INTERVIEW
How old is Giuseppe di Morabito and what does it mean?
I was born in 1992 and the brand was founded in 2015.It means all to me. I always dreamt to do this and that’s what I try to do at best every day. I moved from my small town in Calabria to Milan because I wanted to express my opinion in terms of fashion. Sometimes radical decisions are the most appropriate to take; that’s why I decided to dedicate all to this project although I never had very long experiences working for other brands or I didn’t finish the fashion design university in Milan. I hope to continue to create season by season something different on the panorama and give satisfaction to myself, my team, and all the people who are getting in contact with the brand.
Did your previous experiences help you in the creation of the brand?
Paradoxically, I was very focused on street-wear and men’s collection at the beginning. I did some design consulting in different cities in Italy; I opened a small project of jersey clothing (e.g. t-shirts, sweatshirts etc…). Then during 2014/2015, before I applied to Vogue Italia’s Whoisonnext fashion talent, I realized I wanted to create my line of Womenswear. I took a different direction. However, my experiences into Menswear do help me in designing Womenswear. Sometimes I mix sportswear with craft typical of Womenswear such as laser embroideries and floral hand made decoration.
What inspired you to create Giuseppe di Morabito?
Self-determination and the will to change, upgrade to a different level. I wanted to create something by my own which could encapsulate my idea of beauty altogether.
What is the DNA of GDM?
Giuseppe di Morabito takes inspiration from the visual cultures and re-interprets them in a contemporary conception onto the fashion-product.

I’d pick ‘always dreaming’. Collections are full of colours, prints, floral decoration and embroideries.
I believe the brand’s clients are in search for high quality materials and they look for aesthetic values in what they are wearing.
What is a fashion tip that you can give us?
Dare to be who you are in terms of style and taste as a way of self-expression.
